CLuB Symposium 2023

On October 25th 2023, the All-Ireland Cancer Liquid Biopsies Consortium (CLuB) held its Inaugural Symposium in the Tercentenary Lecture Theatre, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin. The event was opened by Professor Lorraine O'Driscoll, Founder and Lead Investigator, CLuB.

The Keynotes speech was delivered by Professor John O’Leary on “Novel Insights into the Cancer Metastatic Cascade”, and Ms Jacqueline Daly (PPI Advocate) presented “Science for Advocates.”

The morning session included an array of stimulating presentations delivered by CLuB PhD students and was chaired by Ms Jacqueline Daly and Dr Sharon O’Toole.

Ms Volga M. Saini presenting “Perioperative enumeration of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) to predict disease relapse in patients with resected lung cancer” and Ms Faye Lewis presenting “Ovarian cancer whispers; can circulating tumour cells raise the volume?”

Dr Szilárd-Krisztián Belényesi, MD presenting “Investigating Extracellular Vesicles as a key component of the Cancer Liquid Biopsy” and Mr Michéal Ryan presenting “Improving the detection of ‘hard to diagnose cancers’ using methylated circulating tumour DNA”.

The afternoon session commenced with an array of presentations from CLuB Post-Doctoral Researchers; Dr Seán Patmore , Dr Ezgi Oner, Dr. Syed Umbreen, Dr Alex McIntyre Dr Brian Henderson and Dr Aghil Hooshmand. CLuB’s Clinical Research Nurse, Ms Sinead Hurley, and CLuB’s Biotechnician, Mr Ryan Barr, also presented in the afternoon. The session was chaired by Dr Kathy Gately (CLuB Investigator) and Dr Pilib Ó Broin (CLuB Investigator).

The late afternoon was dedicated to a series of company talks and presentations from Accuscience, Angle Europe Ltd, Biomodal, Bio-Rad Laboratories Ltd, Malvern, Nonacus, Nanostring, Illumina, Flow Robotics, and Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd. The event was closed by Lead Investigator, Professor Paul Mullan from Queen’s University Belfast.
